![]() ![]() The two main characters, sixteen year old twins Anne-Marie (Ari for short) and Paul, are in the dark about a lot of things and you’re getting information filtered through their perspectives. I really enjoyed the way the story unfolded. As it is, it’s still an engaging read but is also unlike a lot of YA currently being published. But I would have happily gobbled this up in my teens. ![]() YA of today certainly doesn’t read quite as young feeling as it did twenty-five or thirty years ago, in my opinion. It took me back to my late middle school / early high school days, the style very much reminds me of paranormal books by other authors I was reading back then (Christopher Pike, Lois Duncan, L.J. Struggling to cope with their dark vampire legacy, Anne Marie Montclair grieves over her mother’s tragic death, while her twin brother, Paul, is torn between his love for his sister and his hatred toward the father who had abandoned him. ![]()

I mean there are is so much we all want, but what we get is honestly more than I thought we would ever get, if that at all makes sense. Does Laurent top? Their kingdom is the best kingdom to ever kingdom, isn’t it? Will they have heirs? Will Damen ever meet his child? Will said child be the heir? Will Damen and Laurent get married? Who proposes to who? Do they both try to do it and Laurent messes up along the way and Damen thinks he doesn’t want to get married, but really he had the ring nearby and he just wanted it all perfect. Yet, 30 pages is really freaking short, and I know we all wanted a full fledge ending, in fact it safe to assume we wanted another book. ![]() I could even write a 30 page review on why this shorty was excellent, and why I basically highlighted the shit out of this book, that it reads like a christmas tree. And in my humble opinion, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs actually seems to combine two European folklore traditions, the legend of the Land of Cockaigne, the so-called Schlaraffenland, a utopian land of milk and honey, where residents do not have to work and where food is not only readily available, but where fish, already cooked, swim in the rivers, and the houses are made of gingerbread and candies, and indeed the many folklore stories presenting uncontrollable cooking and food (often with magic pots that continue cooking porridge etc. While Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is of course first and foremost simply a fun romp, both Judi Barret’s narrative and Ron Barrett’s accompanying artwork also manage to convey rather vividly how food can become a rather massive problem when it is uncontrollable or uncontrolled. ![]() ![]() ![]() Her biggest hit came with It’s In His Kiss – a cover of Cher’s The Shoop Shoop Song – which reached number six in 1975. ![]() “The family asks that you respect our privacy and allow us to grieve at this heartbreaking time.”īorn Linda Ann Fredericks in West Ham, she attended stage school and appeared in a non-speaking role in the British film A Taste of Honey in 1961 and as a screaming fan in the first Beatles film A Hard Day’s Night three years later.Ī self-taught guitarist and keyboard player, she appeared at the first Glastonbury Festival in 1970 and had four top 40 hits throughout the next decade – the first coming with Rock-a-Doodle-Doo which reached number 15 in the UK in 1973.
